September 2024 -- The KIDS' FISHING DERBY AND SHOOTING DAY is Saturday September 21. The fishing derby will take place at the Clay Pit Lakes from 8am-12pm (registration starts at 7) and the shooting day will take place at the Tactical Advantage Sportsmans Complex (Range 14) from 1:30-4pm. August 2024 -- ATTENTION ISPORTSMAN USERS: Many training areas are currently closed as we conduct our deer camera survey (1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 30, 31, 33, 36, 37A, 38, 42, 46, 47, 49A/B). The survey should conclude and the areas will open again on August 23. We apologize for the inconvenience.

June 2024 -- Reminder: All iSportsman users are required to take the Fort Eisenhower Safety Briefing (video and quiz) ANNUALLY. The safety briefing is set up to expire on June 15th each year for ALL ACCOUNTS, regardless of when you last took it. If you cannot check-in or purchase permits, please check your safety brief validation expiration. You can check this by logging in to your account and selecting "My Account" > "Account Details" > "Validations." The safety brief video and quiz can be found under "My Safety Briefs".

 

23 May 2024 -- ATTENTION ANGLERS: With the construction of Big Beaver, we have had to lower Little Beaver even further. The pond will potentially drain completely so we encourage all anglers to fish out what is left in the pond. In the event that the pond drains completely, anglers will be allowed to collect any remaining fish from the pond.

8 November 2023 -- REMINDER TO DEER HUNTERS: Per the Georgia DNR Hunting Regulation..."It is unlawful to remove the head of a deer until the deer is processed or surrendered to a storage facility for storage or processing."

 

21 October 2023 -- ATTENTION DEER HUNTERS: It is mandatory for all hunters to submit a lower jawbone from each harvested deer. Jawbones from antlerless deer must be submitted at the time of check out. Jawbones from antlered deer must be submitted within 7 days. Instructions and tools for pulling and submitting jawbones can be found at each checkstation (111th Ave, TA 48, TA49) and the game warden's office. Jawbones can be dropped off in the labeled baskets at each checkstation, the NRB field office, or the game warden's office. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in suspension of your hunting privileges.

 

14 September 2023 -- The payment service for iSportsman will be down for maintenance on 16 September 2023 from 6pm to 10pm. Users will not be able to make any permit purchases during this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

30 August 2023 -- Dove season opens this Saturday 2 September 2023 @ noon. Make sure your hunting permits, approved 9243 forms, training area parking passes, etc. are up to date. The dove field schedule is listed below.

 

29 August 2023: The Natural Resources Branch will be conducting its annual public information meeting on Thursday, 31 August 2023.  The meeting will be held in Darling Hall Room 188 at 6:30 pm and will cover hunting, fishing, natural resouces management, iSportsman, and regulations related information.  All Fort Gordon hunters, anglers, and outdoor recreationists are welcome and first time users are especially encouraged to attend.

 

 

22 August 2023 -- Wilkerson and Mirror Lake will be closed to fishing on Wednesday 23 August 2023. These ponds will re-open on Thursday 24 August 2023. Clay Pit 1 will be closed to fishing on Thursday 24 August 2023 and re-open on Friday 25 August 2023. 

 

3 August 2023 -- The Fort Gordon Natural Resources Branch will be running the annual deer population camera survey starting Monday 7 August through 31 August. Multiple training areas (1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 29, 30, 31, 33, 36, 38, 42, 46, 47, 49A, and 49B) will be closed to all recreation during this time. 

 

17 July 2023 -- Public Access Lottery Winners: Due to staffing shortages and a backlog of processing gate passes, the 9243 background checks are taking longer than usual to process. The Visitor Control Center (VCC) at Gate 6 will begin accepting 9243 forms on 19 July 2023 and are estimating at least 21 days to process. We apologize for the inconvenience. For more information on public access and the 9243 process, click HERE.

 

23 Mar 2023 -- Attention Hunters: Scouting will be closed Saturday 25 March and Sunday 26 March for the Special Opportunity Turkey Hunt. Scouting activities will reopen Monday 27 March.

 

03 Feb. 2023 -- Attention iSportsman Users: iSportsman is experiencing issues processing permit purchases. We are aware of this and are working with iSportsman to resolve this problem. We apologize for the inconvenience. 

 

12 Jan 2023 -- Attention FishermenThe Fort Gordon Natural Resources Branch will be stocking Wilkerson and Whittimore Ponds with trout, and the ponds will be open for fishing on 4 February 2023 starting legal fishing hours. Limit = 8 trout.

01 Dec 2021-- Attention Fishermen: The Natural Resource Branch will be adjusting water levels in Little Smoak, Howard, and Upper Leitner over the next several months in preparation for the repair of Little Smoak water structure.

 

01 Nov 2021-- New: The Open Areas page has been adjusted to show "planned" Area Status up to a week from the present date.

01 Dec 2021-- Attention Deer Hunter: After assessing the results of our installations Preseason White-tailed Deer Population Estimate Survey the NRB has decided to remove the antlerless deer harvest quota for the remainder of the 2021-2022 Deer Hunting Season for TA’s 18-49.

However the two (2) antlerless deer per hunter within these TA’s is still in effect.

 

01 Nov 2021-- Attention Deer Hunter: As a reminderALL HUNTERS WHO HARVEST AN ANTERLESS DEER ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE LOWER JAWBONE AT CHECK-OUT. HUNTERS WHO HAVE HARVESTED AN ANTLERED BUCK HAVE 7 DAYS TO RETURN THE DEERS JAWBONE, IF IT IS GOING TO BE TAXIDERMIED. This is stated in both the 420-5 (Chapter 5-5-f.) and the Big Game Annual Hunting Season Update.

 

ATTENTION: 

***Gate 6 and new Visitor Control Center OPEN 23 Oct***

Effective Saturday, 4:45 a.m. Oct 23:  Gate 6 will open 24/7 as the new, main access control point for DOD ID Card Holders, commercial vehicles and installation visitors & non-DOD ID card holders requiring passes. The Visitor Control Center (VCC) at Gate 6 must be used by all visitors/non-DOD ID Card holders requiring a pass for installation access.

The Gate 6 VCC will be open Mon-Fri from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be closed on Sunday.

 

Gates 2 & 3 will close permanently at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct 22

 

IMPORTANT - Gate 1 Operational Changes effective Sat, Oct 23:  There will no longer be ‘bump-out’ lanes at Gate 1. Instead, there will only be two lanes of inbound and outbound traffic 24/7 to include the morning rush.

 

Gate 1 may only be used by DOD ID Card holders and those with authorized Fort Gordon Access Credentials/documents.

 

Gate 1 may not be used by anyone without a DOD ID Card or authorized Fort Gordon Access Credentials/documents. If a visitor does not have a DOD ID Card or authorized Fort Gordon Access Credentials/documents they MUST use Gate 6 and the new Visitor Control Center facility located there to request access.

 

Gate 5 : No change to gate operations

 

Sportsmen: Once again, due to Covid-19 policy, we did not hold a NRB Public Meeting. In lieu of the aforementioned meeting this Fort Gordon Natural Resources Branch Overview is available for review to provide users with a general outline of aspects of the program. It provides information regarding Natural Resources Branch Priorities, natural resources management activities examples, fish and game management summary information, iSportsman briefing, and more.

 

01 Aug 2021 -- The Fort Gordon NRB wil be conducting it's annual deer camera survey starting on 12 August and continuing through 2 September.  Therefore training areas 1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 33, 36, 38, 42, 46, 47, 49, and the SAIA will be closed during this time.

 

13 July 2021 -- ATTENTION iSPORTSMAN USERS: Updated USACCoE&FG Reg 420-5 (Click Here) is now available for review. Important changes to note are listed below but the version provided in the link has changes made highlighted within the document.

 

01 July 2021 -- REMINDER TO RECREATIONISTS: Riders and walkers signing into to Bicycle Course 3 are reminded to stay on Hugh Camp Rd only. Designated parking areas for this route are the Leitner Lake primitive camping area, the open area between Howard Lake and Big Smoak Lake or parallel parking on Hugh Camp Rd as not to block the flow of traffic. It prohibited to park on dams and to enter adjacent training areas while utilizing Bicycle Course 3.

2021 Turkey Season Hunting dates are March 20 - May 15The installations harvest limit differed from the states this season. There was a 2 Gobbler Limit on the installation this season.

ALL iSportsman PERMIT HOLDERS: Pay attention to pond/lake, TA, and all Ft Gordon Management Area signage in regards to areas being Open or Closed (i.e. lakes and ponds) or any additional signs posted that may indicate temporary closures, restrictions, etc. These signs will take precedence over iSportsman Open/Closed Areas indications. Make sure you are familiar with all State of Georgia and Ft Gordon specific regulations regarding recreation and keeping up with up-to-date hunting and fishing schedules and notes. These resources are all provided on this website.

July 1, 2019 -- Attention Public Access Sportsmen:  Lottery Entry Tickets for the 2019-2020 Public Access Lottery are on sale now through July 15, 2019.  The drawing will be held on July 16, 2019 and entrants will be notified by email about their status.  Lottery winners will recieve privileges to purchase a hunting and/or fishing permit for the 2019-2020 season.  Those wishing to enter the lottery should ensure their annual safety briefing is up to date, as an expired safety breifing will prevent the purchase of all permits.

April 17, 2019 -- Attention Fishermen: The Fort Gordon Natural Resources Branch will be draining Rachel II Lake tomorrow, 18 April 2019.  The draining will start at 0800 hours and continue throughout the day until the lake is fully drained and all fish have been removed.  We encourage you to bring your nets and buckets and take home some fish!  Bag limits do not apply, but a permit is required.

 

January 26, 2019 -- Fishermen:  The annual trout season will open on 2 February. Trout will be stocked in Wilkerson and Whittimore ponds.   Wilkerson pond will be open for family fishing only (adults with children) on 2 February, and open to everyone thereafter.  The limit is 8 trout per fisherman.

 

January 15, 2019 -- Deer Hunters:  We had a great deer season with the highest harvest we have had in the past 10 years.  We also had a record number of trophy bucks taken this season.  If you harvested a buck and did not have it measured by one of our staff, we would love to meet with you and measure your buck.  This additional data will help improve our database which will allow us to make better informed management decisions.  You can contact a biologist to arrange the measurement of your buck by calling (706)726-0098, (706)840-5022, or (706)791-2397.

*An antlerless deer quota is in effect for training areas 18-49.  Each hunter may only harvest two antlerless deer in these areas up until the quota is reached.  Once the quota is met we will post an announcement and no more antlerless deer may be harvested for the remainder of the season.

 

January 5, 2019 -- Attention Deer Hunters:  The Antlerless Deer Quota for Training Areas 18-49 has been met. For the remainder of the season only antlered deer may be harvested in Training Areas 18-49.  Antlerless deer may still be harvested in the Archery Only and Small Arms Impact Areas (SAIA).

 

November 7, 2018 -- Attention Deer Hunters: The cooler located at the Game Warden's field office has been repaired and is operational. For access to the cooler during normal duty hours, contact the Natural Resources Branch at 706-726-0098 or 706-791-2397. For access to the cooler during normal duty hours or after hours, contact the Law Enforcement Center at 706-791-4380.

August 6, 2018 -- All Sportsmen: If you are interested in learning about our Natural Resources program, please attend our annual public briefing on 30 August at 6:30 pm in Darling Hall, Room 188.  We will discuss natural resource management, hunting and fishing information, and recent changes to the 420-5 regulation.

 

July 16, 2018 -- Public Access Sportsmen: The Public Access Lottery entry period has ended and names have been drawn. All winners were contacted via email. If you were selected, you can access your account, complete the safety brief and quiz, and purchase any hunting and/or fishing permit. To acquire an extended access pass, sportsman must submit a 9243 form (background check) to the Law Enforcement Center on Ft Gordon. After your background check has been approved, take your approved 9243 form to the Visitor's Control Center at Gate 1 to receive your access pass. July 3, 2018 -- Attention Public Access Sportsmen: The application period for the 2018-2019 Public Access Lottery is here!  You can purchase your lottery entry ticket through your iSportsman account July 1-15.  The drawing will be held on July 16.  Remember, if you are not an active duty or retired service member, a member of a Reserve or Guard component, a current or retired DoD civilian employee, 100% service-related disabled, or a dependent family member of one of these then you must enter the Public Access Lottery to be able to purchase hunting or fishing permits.  For more information see the Public Access page.

 

June 14, 2018 --  Effective 14 June 2018, a few changes have been made to the Fort Gordon Regulation 420-5 affecting hunting and fishing schedules and permit fees. Fishing is no longer permitted for 24 hours a day. Sportsmen participating in daytime hunting and/or fishing may check in to hunt/fish no earlier than 2 hours before sunrise and must be checked out no later than 2 hours after sunset. Changes to the fee schedule include an increase in price for the Nighttime Hunting Permit ($10) and a new combination 100% Service-Disabled Hunting and Fishing Permit ($5). These changes and more can be found in the updated FG Regulation 420-5 (Hunting, Fishing, Bicycling, and Training Area Recreation Regulation).

March 20, 2018 -- All Sportsmen: The iSportsman system is now equipped with a feature that will send users a checkout reminder via text or email 30 minutes prior to the required checkout time. If you wish to receive the reminder by text ensure that you have a correct mobile phone number and text messages enabled in your iSportsman account profile.  For those who choose not to enter a mobile phone number or enable text messages the reminder will come in the form of an email to the address you have on file in your iSportsman account profile.  As a reminder, it is your resposibility to check out using the iSportsman system upon the completion of your activity as stated in the Fort Gordon Regulation 420-5. Do not wait until you get a reminder or until the mandatory checkout time.

February 12, 2018 -- Fort Gordon Sportsman's Club will sponsor a Continental Pheasant Hunt on 3 March 2018. The cost is $75 per hunter, but free of charge for participants ages 10 to 15. ALL participants must have a Hunter Education Certificate as well as GA DNR and Fort Gordon hunting permits. Please pre-register by 1 March. January 24, 2018 -- Attention Fishermen: The Fort Gordon Natural Resources Branch has stocked Wilkerson and Whittimore Ponds with trout, and the ponds will open for fishing on 3 February 2018 at 7:00am. Wilkerson Pond will only be open to families (with children) on 3 February 2018 and will open to all fishermen on 4 February 2018. Whittimore Pond is open to all fishermen. Limit = 8

January 12, 2018 -- Attention Deer Hunters:  The antlerless deer quota for Training Areas 18-49 has been met. For the remainder of the season deer hunting in Training Areas 18-49 is buck only.

 

December 18, 2017 -- All outdoor recreation activities on Fort Gordon will be CLOSED on MONDAY DECEMBER 25. Outdoor recreation activities will resume back to normal on Tuesday December 26.

 

November 28, 2017 -- Deer Hunters:  The antlerless deer quota for Training Areas 18-49 has been extended for an additional 20 antlerless deer as of 28 November.  The results from our fall deer camera survey were positive and indicated a steady population increase in this zone over the past several years allowing us to expand the quota.

November 16, 2017 -- Prescribed Fire Map: A map of the proposed prescribed burn areas for 2017-2018 has been posted under "Maps" on the menu above. If you have deer stands/blinds, cameras, or any other personal items in the highlighted areas, please ensure that they are fire-proofed or removed from the area.

 

November 13, 2017 --  The antlerless deer quota for Training Areas 18-49 has been reached.  These areas are now antlered buck only until the end of the season or further notice. Antlerless harvest is still permitted in the Archery only and SAIA zones.

 

November 8, 2017 -- Deer Hunters: Let us measure and score your buck.  If you have harvested a buck this year, no matter how big or small, we would like to measure and score its rack.  This will help us continue to build our database of deer harvest data which is a vital part of making deer management decisions.  You can bring your rack by the Natural Resources Field Office during normal duty hours or give us a call to make other arrangements.  Thanks to those who have already brought in a rack for measurement.

 

November 8, 2017 --  The regular waterfowl season for ducks and geese begins November 18th.  Please remember that no waterfowl hunting is allowed in Training Areas 30 and 34 (Union Mill Pond, Sandy Run Beaver Pond, and Sandy Run Creek).  However, during the Youth Waterfowl Days (11 and 12 November) waterfowl hunting will be permitted in these areas for youth hunters.  See the GA DNR hunting regulation for more information on age restrictions and adult participation.

October 23, 2017 -- Deer Hunters: After harvesting a deer, do not fill out the electronic harvest information during the iSportsman check out process until you have taken your harvest to one of the check stations and weighed it and pulled a jawbone.  Please do not estimate weights. Once you have supplied the requested information about your harvest during the iSportsman check out  process, you do not need to submit a paper kill card.   For more information concerning deer check requirements click here.

 

October 19, 2017 -- Deer Hunters:  Please remember that all deer harvested during normal duty hours (M-F 0800-1600, excluding federal holidays) must be checked by an installation biologist before you leave the installation.  Phone numbers for reaching one of the biologists can be found at each of the Outdoor Rec Information Stations. For more information concerning deer check requirements click here.

September 29, 2017 -- Deer Cooler Instructions: The deer cooler at the game warden's complex is operational and can be utilized by hunters if Fort Gordon personnel are available to open the gate and cooler. To access the cooler, call 706-791-4380 (MP Desk) to reach a game warden. If a game warden is available they can meet you at the cooler and log in your deer. If you wish to access the cooler during normal duty hours (M-F; 07:30-16:00) then you can contact the Natural Resources Branch at 706-726-0098 or 706-840-5022.

 

 September 15, 2017 -- The next Kids' Fishing Derby and Shooting Day will be held on Saturday, 23 September, 2017 at the Clay Pit Ponds and Range 14. September 5, 2017 -- Reminder: All iSportsman users, please remember to check out and report any game harvested as soon as you are finished with your activity.  Failure to check out may result in a citation and/or account suspension.  Also, all participants (participating guests) must check in under a sponsor, but must check out using their own account.

 

September 5, 2017--  If you plan to hunt or fish this fall but haven't yet transitioned to the iSportsman system please do so as soon as possible. iSportsman help is only available during duty hours (M-F, 0800-1600 hrs).  Hunters with valid permits issued by the TASC will need transition permits to be able to use the iSportsman system to check in/out for hunting or fishing.  Please see the FAQ page for information on how to register and obtain your transition permits. 

 

August 30, 2017 -- The updated Hunting, Fishing, and Training Area Recreation Regulation (USACCoE&FG Reg 420-5) has been uploaded to the site.  Go to the "Regulations and Forms" menu above to view or download your copy of the regulation.

 

August 21, 2017 --  If you are interested in learning about our Natural Resources program, please attend our annual public briefing on 24 August at 6:00 pm in Darling Hall, Room 188.  We will discuss natural resource management, hunting and fishing information, recent changes to the 420-5 regulation, and the new iSportsman system. DES personnel will be present to brief and answer questions regarding game wardens.

 

August 14, 2017 -- As of August 9, 2017 the updated FG Regulation 420-5 (Hunting, Fishing, and Outdoor Recreation Regulation) has been approved and signed by the Garrison Commander. However, we are currently waiting on it to be published and printed.  As soon as we have a published version we will post it to this site and have printed hard copies available. In the interim, you can call 706-791-2397 or 706-791-6135 with any questions about the updated regulation.

TA 48 and 49 update -- TA 49 will be closed until at least 5 Sept 2017. TA 48 will open 15 August 2017.

 

August 1, 2017 -- All check-in/out for Fort Gordon outdoor recreation activities will go through the iSportsman system. The Control Access Log Stations will no longer be used for check in/out. Users may check in/out on the iSportsman website using a computer/smartphone or telephonically by calling (855) 252-6110. 

All users must create a profile and acquire permits in the iSportsman system BEFORE participating in outdoor recreation. The TASC will no longer sell permits. If you are a current permit holder, we will award you a transition permit in the iSportsman system AFTER you have registered and created a profile. Can I check-in to iSportsman with my current license?" for further instructions.

 

July 20, 2017 --  Fort Gordon's iSportsman system is now open for all permit sales and for checking in and out for all outdoor recreation activities.  We have also started awarding transition permits for current permit holders with valid permits. July 19, 2017 -- Today is the last day to enter the Public Access lottery! We will run the drawing on Thursday, July 20, 2017. Winners will be notified by email with further instructions on how to purchase their Fort Gordon hunting and/or fishing permits.

July 1, 2017 --   The application period for the 2017-2018 Public Access Lottery is now open! All public access users can find information about how to apply for the lottery by clicking "Public Access" then "Lottery" on the blue bar above. New this year... all base support contractors and non-DoD Government civilians/retirees must also enter the lottery to be eligible to purchase Fort Gordon hunting or fishing permits. Also, all individuals must enter the lottery separately; dependents of lottery winners will not be eligible to purchase a permit unless they have entered/won the lottery or are under the age of 18.

**Active/retired Armed Forces personnel (and dependents), active/retired DOD civilian employees (and dependents), and members of the Army/Air National Guard and Drilling Reservists (and dependents) are still eligible to purchase hunting and fishing permits when they become available and do not need to enter the public access lottery.

 

June 29, 2017 -- We will begin selling permits, awarding transition permits, and utilizing the online checkin/out features on iSportsman starting on July 20, 2017. On August 1, 2017, we will move entirely to iSportsman, permit sales at the TASC will cease, and check in/out at Control Access Log Stations will cease.

If you have a current Fort Gordon hunting or fishing permit, you must contact the NRB (on or after July 20) to receive your transition permit in iSportsman. Please visit the FAQ page and see "I still have a current Fort Gordon hunting or fishing permit. Do I have to buy a new permit in iSportsman? Can I check-in to iSportsman with my current license?" for further instructions.

We will also have an iSportsman Training and Q&A on July 20, 2017 at the Sportsman's Club (TASC) at 6:00pm. Other trainings will be held in August (dates and times TBD).

 

 

June 28, 2017 -- All individuals who wish to recreate or harvest forest products on Fort Gordon must complete a safety brief and quiz. After you register and create your account, click the "My Safety Briefs" tab on the blue menu bar. Follow the instructions, view the safety brief video, and complete the quiz. You will not be able to purchase permits (when they become available) if you have not completed the safety brief.

 

June 26, 2017 -- Registration is now open!

Fort Gordon sportsmen may now begin accessing the iSportsman site in order to build their profile (register). You can start this process by clicking on "Log in/Register" on the blue bar above. Detailed instructions and a step-by-step tutorial can also be found on the FAQ page under "How do I register with iSportsman?"

Permit sales and check in/out functions are not available at this time, but will be coming soon.

The lottery drawing for 2017-2018 hunting and fishing permits will take place on July 20, with a July 1-19 application period.  Please check back to this site in late June for details.
